The Cheapest Event Space Neighborhoods in NYC (and What You Give Up)
Two neighborhoods anchor the low end of our catalog, and they’re cheap for opposite reasons. Bushwick is cheap because it’s Brooklyn, unglamorous, and hasn’t been priced up the way Williamsburg has. The Garment District is cheap because the inventory is functional — meeting rooms and flex space, not lofts with a view. Knowing which kind of cheap you’re getting tells you what you’re giving up.
The two floors
Bushwick rates run from about $105 to $545 an hour, averaging around $236 — roughly a fifth of what a comparable Manhattan room costs — for spaces averaging over twenty-six hundred square feet and holding fifty to two hundred and fifty guests. The mix is bars, lounges, event lofts, community centers and event venues: raw, flexible, and comfortable with a crowd.
The Garment District starts even lower — around $35 an hour, the cheapest entry point in Manhattan — for meeting rooms, private offices, conference rooms and flex space, running up to about $800 for full event floors and photo lofts. Capacity spans six-person rooms to four hundred.

What “cheap” doesn’t mean here
None of these are compromises on the thing they’re built for. A Garment District conference room isn’t a downgrade from a Midtown East one — it’s the same product at a lower rate because you’re not also paying for a hotel address. What you do give up varies by neighborhood: Bushwick trades polish for atmosphere and asks you to handle transit for guests coming from Manhattan; the Garment District trades character for utility — you’re renting a working room, not a photogenic one.
East Williamsburg is worth calling out on its own. It’s what Williamsburg costs before the waterfront markup — rates from $150 to $1,000 an hour for spaces averaging around twenty-seven hundred square feet, with capacity up to seven hundred, meaningfully more room per dollar than the neighborhood immediately west of it. If a Williamsburg quote is over budget, this is the first place to check before giving up on the L train corridor entirely.
The Financial District’s case
The Financial District doesn’t read as a budget neighborhood, but the numbers say otherwise once you account for size: rates from about $50 to $1,150 an hour for the largest average floor space of any Manhattan neighborhood we list — close to ten thousand square feet. For a large event where price-per-square-foot is what actually matters, it beats the sticker-price-cheaper options once you account for how much room you get.
Matching cheap to your event type
If the event is a party or a launch and character matters, start in Bushwick. If it’s a workshop, a training day or a recurring team meeting, the Garment District’s meeting rooms are the better value — the two neighborhoods solve different problems, and mixing them up is the most common way planners overpay.
