Booking a gallery in New York

A gallery is a room engineered to disappear. White or neutral walls, track lighting you can aim, no fixed furniture, a floor rated for standing crowds, and proportions designed so that people can move through the space and look at things. That is a remarkably good specification for an event where the room should support the content rather than compete with it.

Our gallery inventory concentrates in Chelsea, with more in the West Village, Tribeca, Chinatown and the Lower East Side. Chelsea is the deepest because that is where the gallery district is — the same spaces that hang shows during the week are available for evening events.

They work best for exhibitions, brand launches, private views, fashion presentations, panels and standing receptions. They work least well for seated dinners and anything loud: the hard surfaces that make a gallery good to look at make it acoustically live, so plan for sound treatment or amplification if anyone needs to be heard from a podium. Also confirm what you may attach to the walls — in most galleries the answer is considerably less than you would hope.
